Making your exterior look great isn’t just about gardening and painting. A freshly pressure- washed exterior gives your home an immediate facelift. It also prevents damage, extends the lifespan of your home’s materials, and saves you money.
But how often should you pressure wash your home? In this guide, the team at Mr. Handyman answers this question to help you determine the ideal frequency of pressure cleaning your property. Our handymen have been offering professional pressure washing services for decades, so they know a thing or two about the process.
For most homes, pressure washing once a year is sufficient to keep the exterior looking clean and well-maintained. An annual cleaning removes the grime and organic growth that naturally accumulate over time, preventing discoloration and long-term damage. Scheduling your pressure washing in the spring or early summer is ideal because it clears away the debris left by winter storms and prepares your home for outdoor gatherings and warm-weather activities.
If your home is surrounded by trees, receives little sunlight, or is located in a humid area, you may need to pressure wash it every six to eight months. Moist environments encourage mold, mildew, and algae growth, especially on shaded sides of the house or near gutters. These substances can cause staining and even structural damage if not addressed in a timely manner. Regular cleaning keeps your home’s exterior fresh and prevents harmful buildup from taking hold.
Homes in areas that experience harsh weather conditions, like heavy rainfall, windstorms, or dust, may also require more frequent pressure washing. Rain and wind can deposit dirt and debris on siding and driveways, while dry, dusty climates can leave a layer of grime that dulls paint and finishes. Regular cleaning helps protect your exterior surfaces and ensures they remain vibrant and intact despite exposure to the elements.
The type of material on your home’s exterior also affects how often you should pressure wash. Vinyl siding, for example, typically requires cleaning once a year, while wood siding may need attention every six months to prevent mold growth and paint peeling. Brick and stucco homes are more durable but still benefit from an annual wash to remove dirt and prevent discoloration. Driveways, decks, and patios, especially those exposed to heavy foot traffic or vehicle use, may need pressure washing two or three times a year to maintain their appearance and prevent surface damage.
Pressure washing is essential before any major exterior renovation, such as painting, staining, or sealing. A thorough cleaning done by a skilled handyman in Sherman, TX removes dirt, old paint, and mildew, ensuring the new finish adheres properly and lasts longer. If you plan to repaint your home, schedule pressure washing a few days before the project begins to give surfaces time to dry completely.

We called Mr. Handyman because we had a problem with our 2nd floor gutters overflowing and flooding the front flower beds. John arrived the next day and took care of everything. He was friendly, knowledgeable and took good care of our property. It turned out the gutters were fairly clean but John took the time to check more thoroughly and found the downspouts were clogged. He cleared them out and managed to get everything working as it should while taking care not to crush my newly planted flowers. I'm very happy with this service.
John Svoboda arrived when he was expected. He was friendly and professional. We wanted to make sure the windows were well sealed. He inspected each window inside and out and recommended caulking for some of them. He gave us an accurate time estimate for completing the work. A great experience! We will be calling Mr. Handyman for other tasks

My dog has an autoimmune disease that requires he eat sitting upright. I got him a special chair for this, but it came without pilot holes drilled and for the life of me I could not get it assembled. I called Mr Handyman and Pete came out and was absolutely awesome. Amazingly friendly and knowledgeable dude, and was able to get the chair fixed and sturdy as a rock in no time at all. I had a few electrical outlets around the house that stopped working and he was also able to quickly diagnose that and explain to me what was happening. Another tech came out earlier this year to repair some flashing on my roof after a bad storm and had an equally awesome experience then. I’m very thankful for Pete and the team at Mr Handyman!
